Rethinking Wulai, New Taipei City, Taiwan - Workshop for the Strategies of Environmental Relocation in a High-Risk Valley -

活動內容  /  Context

The workshop addresses the strategies of environmental relocation on the edge of Taipei Metropolitan. The capital city of Taiwan, Taipei City, is surrounded by New Taipei City, which has the highest population in Taiwan, and faces the huge challenge of sprawl. Since Taipei City is situated in a basin and surrounded by mountains, it is not surprising that natural disasters have increased in the recent years. In 2015, there were dramatic floods and mud slide that destroyed most of Wulai district, one of the famous hot-spring areas in Taiwan. The city government is reviewing and replanning the Wulai urban plan in 2017, and the workshop will feature a discussion of the possible scenarios and strategies for the district. This workshop will help New Taipei City to reduce the conflict between human settlement and environment.
